Quartz vs Granite

What is the difference?

We’re often asked about the difference between granite and quartz slab counters. Quartz countertops are man-made, composed of 90% quartz and 10 % resins, polymers and pigments. This makes for a very resilient artificial rock without pores or cracks--which means it is more durable than granite and easier to clean and maintain. The pigments used in quartz countertops provide a variety of colors to homeowners, which allow for many bold design options. If your primary concern is having a countertop that you can ignore and heavily use, quartz counters are the way to go.

Granite is 100% natural. It’s mined from quarries around the world, cut down to a manageable size, and then polished to a fine finish. Granite can withstand a hot pot being set down directly on it, while quartz is less resistant to high heat. You’ll find there is a certain excitement that comes with picking out a beautifully natural slab of granite for its unique color variations. But whether granite or quartz, you can't go wrong with either choice. Just have fun making your selection, and you’ll be sure to find the right stone for you and your family.
